Data Science Research Assistant

Our research group on Law, Economics and Data Science at the Center for Law & Economics is looking for a highly motivated Data Science Research Assistant to develop and deploy a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) application at the intersection of law, economics and business. This full-time (80-100%) position will run from 1 June 2025 to 31 July 2025, with the option to continue on a part-time basis afterwards. You will work closely with our research team to implement a new version of our RAG-based chatbot.
Job description
You will develop and deploy a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) application at the intersection of law, economics and business. You will work closely with our research team to implement a new version of our RAG-based chatbot.
Profile
The ideal candidate will be a computer or data science student, or a student with extensive practical programming experience. German language skills are a plus, as the retrieved documents will be written in German. Experience with Large Language Models (LLMs) and/or RAG deployment, for example with the Azure OpenAI service, is highly advantageous. An interest in social sciences and law is also beneficial.
