Adjunct Professor in Manufacturing

The Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering (www.mavt.ethz.ch) at ETH Zurich invites applications from experienced scientists specializing in manufacturing. The initial appointment will be made at the scientific collaborator level (non-permanent) with the intended rapid promotion to senior scientist (permanent) and awarding of the Adjunct Professor title.
Job description
Successful candidates are expected to run a world-class research and teaching program that emphasizes industrial translation in the field of manufacturing. We seek outstanding scientists with demonstrated expertise in subtractive manufacturing (cutting, milling, grinding, electro discharge machining), production machines and machine tools. They shall leverage their knowledge to address industry-relevant research challenges such as controlling high precision production machines, optimizing machine tools, or conceiving sustainable manufacturing processes.
This position is envisaged to be part of ETH’s Center for Manufacturing, which is to be founded in the coming months.The selected candidate will support in the development and execution of educational and mentoring activities as well as the supervision of doctoral students in the area of subtractive manufacturing and machine tools. He/she will further support the acquisition and coordination of industry-focused projects, involving many ETH students and researchers Additionally, the role offers collaboration opportunities with inspire AG, ETH’s strategic partner for technology transfer to the mechanical, electrical, and metal (MEM) industries.
Profile
Applicants should hold a PhD degree in engineering and have an excellent record of accomplishments in conducting academic and/or industrial research on the above topics. A high motivation for teaching in the field is required, particularly in project-based courses with hands-on learning experiences. At MAVT, undergraduate level courses are taught in German or English and graduate level courses are taught in English. Your profile should complement research and teaching at the Institute for Machine Tools and Manufacturing (IWF) and the Institute for Virtual Manufacturing (IVP).
