Genomic Data Engineer
80%-100%, Zurich, permanent
The Animal Genomics group at the Institute of Agricultural Sciences at ETH Zurich investigates DNA variation both in individual animal genomes and at the population scale. Our group applies state of the art technologies to sequence the genomes and transcriptomes of farm animals with long and short reads, and applies bioinformatics and statistical genomics approaches to characterize trait-associated sequence variation. We offer a position at the interface of computational and statistical genomics, and bioinformatics.
Job description
You will be responsible for the development and deployment of software and workflows to process and analyse genotyping and sequencing data at high-performance compute clusters. This involves supporting other team members such as doctoral and Master students to efficiently analyse sequence variant and phenotype data with common statistical-genetics software. Your workflows will facilitate the anaysis of scientific data and you will contribute to the writing of manuscripts. You will also deposit workflows accompanying scientific publications at public repositories and manage research data.
Your profile
We are looking for a highly motivated Genomic Data Engineer. You ideally have experience in an academic setting in several of the following areas:
- Analysis of high-throughput genotyping and sequencing data.
- Affinity to computational genomics and statistical genetics is a pre-requisite.
- Several years of experience with programming languages (e.g., python, perl, R), workflow development (e.g., snakemake), version controlling (e.g., Git), and high-performance computing clusters is required.
- A MSc degree in bioinformatics, computer science, data sciences, or disciplines related to the position.
- Collaboration within a highly international team requires good knowledge of English.
