Postdoc - development and applications of living microbial diagnostics

The team of the newly funded Botnar Research Centre for Child Health (BRCCH) Multi-Investigator Project “Living Microbial Diagnostics to Enable Individualized Child Health Interventions” is looking to build an interdisciplinary group of postdoctoral fellows. The project, led by Prof. Randall Platt (ETH Zurich), Prof. Uwe Sauer (ETH Zurich), Prof. Dirk Bumann (University of Basel, Biozentrum) and Prof. Dr. med. Andrew Macpherson (University of Bern, Inselspital), will be implemented at the ETH Zurich in Zurich and Basel, University of Basel, University of Bern, and in collaboration with partners in Zimbabwe.

Job description

We, the Platt Lab, are looking for an exceptional postdoc to be a part of this group while being embedded in a dynamic research team that develops genome engineering technologies and methods – towards creating fundamentally new ways of interrogating and controlling biology – and applying them towards creating novel diagnostics and therapeutics. We are looking to grow the team with passionate scientists with a documented mastery of complementary skills at the interface of molecular technology development (CRISPR, molecular, cellular, and prokaryotic synthetic biology), functional genomics and systems biology as well as various aspects related to the host-microbe interactions, disease modeling in animal models, malnutrition and stunting, microbiome engineering, living microbial diagnostics, and entrepreneurship.

Your profile

The ideal candidate should have a Ph.D. or equivalent in Biology, Microbiology, Pathology, Immunology, or related fields. The person must have experience in the areas of host-microbe interactions, microbiome engineering, and mucosal immunology in the intestinal tract. The required skills include:

  • working with mouse models;
  • molecular and cell biological techniques in vitro and in vivo;
  • generation of multi-omics data as well as working with computational biologists to analyze data and interpret results.

The candidate should have a strong publication record, several years of research experience, great organizational and communication skills, passion for team-based science, and a deep scientific curiosity.
