PhD position – Development of sensors for airborne pollutants
100%, Zurich, fixed-term
Applications are invited for a PhD position in the Air Quality and Particle Technology group (http://www.ie.ifu.ethz.ch/, Prof. Dr J. Wang). You will be hosted by the Institute of Environmental Engineering, ETH Zürich and will also work at Empa, (Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Testing and Research).
Position starting from May 2023 or upon agreement.
Project background
The research is related to the development of sensors for airborne pollutants. Detection of pollutants plays critical roles in environmental protection, safeguarding human health and societal welfare, limiting contamination, and enhancing production yield in industries. Our group is engaged in the development of various optical and electrochemical sensors targeting gaseous and biological pollutants.
Job description
You will be involved in tasks such as:
- Development of innovative sensing techniques for gaseous and biological pollutants
- Fabrication of sensors using 3D printing, laser lithography, MEMS or optofluidic methods
- Explore novel applications of the sensors in medical, environmental, and safety applications
Your profile
We are looking for suitable individuals with a master-level degree in material science, electrical engineering, chemistry, mechanical engineering or related fields with excellent grades. Furthermore, a good experimental capability is of high value, as well as a good command of English.
