Junior Engineer in analog/digital electronic circuits design
The Aerospace Electronics and Instruments Laboratory (AEIL) at the Institute of Geophysics has long-lasting experience in designing and developing ultra-low-noise electronics and high-resolution data acquisition systems for applications in planetary seismology and fundamental physics in space. AEIL has supervised the development of sensor electronics for the LISA Pathfinder mission (ESA) and the InSight mission (NASA) to Mars. It is currently involved in several different projects aiming at the development of electronic systems for space applications. In the framework of a recently approved Horizon 2020 project, AEIL is currently looking for a Junior Engineer in analog/digital electronic circuits design.
Job description
You will be part of a small and dynamical team working on several different projects aiming at the development of electronic systems for scientific investigations in space and planetary exploration. The activity will be especially connected to a European project for the development of a compact and cost-effective inertial measurement unit for supporting the future objectives of the European research in space. You will perform your tasks in collaboration with leading European research institutions and major actors in the European space industry. At the Aerospace Electronics and Instruments Laboratory we are committed to promoting flexible and family-friendly working models. The contract will start on March 2021 or upon mutual agreement and it is limited to one year with the possibility of extension.
Your tasks will include:
- Implementation of the electronics design flow covering all the aspects of analog and mixed signal electronic circuit design, from analog design flow to digital and FPGA design flow
- Establishing requirement specifications for electronic systems for space applications
- Preparing and performing testing campaigns
- Preparation of technical reports
- Participation in project reviews
Your profile
The position requires a Bachelor / Master of Engineering degree.
We are looking for candidates with a background in engineering, which have demonstrated knowledge in analog and mixed signal electronic circuits design and FPGA design. Previous experience in analog and mixed signal electronic circuits design for space applications is advantageous but not mandatory. Fluency in English both written and spoken is mandatory.
Analytical thinking and the ability to handle multiple tasks in parallel are required skills together with a good aptitude to working in a team. Moreover, the position requires the ability to work under project deadline pressure.
In addition, familiarity with electronic circuit design software, circuit simulation tools (Spice) and knowledge of Matlab, Simulink and LabVIEW software is considered beneficial.
