Internship in the field of high performance grinding
The Institute for Machine Tools and Manufacturing (IWF), headed by Prof. Dr. Konrad Wegener, at ETH Zurich conducts fundamental and application-oriented research in many areas of production technology. It maintains close cooperation with inspire AG, Switzerland's leading competence center for technology transfer to the machine, electrical and metal industries. The institute's work in areas range from production machines, manufacturing processes and machine simulation to virtual reality. With access to state-of-the-art machinery and measurement technology, the Process Group can cover a very broad spectrum of research areas.
The main goal of your work is the research in the arising field of machining of brittle materials as in the edge grinding of glass in the automotive industry and display technologies. The work takes place within the framework of a research project lasting several years and includes the development and establishment of new processing strategies. The process stability of the existing and new machining strategies are theoretically and experimentally studied to be implemented on a modern grinding machine. Reliable, robust processes, sustainability and resource efficiency planning are just as important as maximum precision and quality.
- Supporting the Grinding Group in a research project
- Research and practical work on state-of-the-art machine tools
- Conducting experiments and analyzing results
- Cooperation with industry partners in Switzerland
- Working on site in a fascinating environment within the Zurich region
You are interested in an internship at ETH Zurich and you are a Master's or Bachelor's student in mechanical engineering, materials science, electrical engineering or physics at a university or university of applied sciences. Experience in the field of manufacturing processes and machine tools is an advantage, but not obligatory. You are creative, technically skillful, highly motivated and inquisitive. In addition, you like to combine theoretical considerations and models with experimental tasks and results. Accurate working and good language skills in English complete your profile. We are offering you an internship position for a period of 6 to 12 months by arrangement from now. By working closely with our project partners, you will quickly establish contacts within the Swiss industry.
We look forward to receiving your online application with the following documents:
- Curriculum Vitae
- Motivational Letter
- Transcript of records
- Ev. reference letters
Please note that we exclusively accept applications submitted through our online application portal. Applications via email or postal services will not be considered.
