Postdoctoral Position in Computational Nonlinear Model Reduction

The Chair in Nonlinear Dynamics at ETH Zürich (https://imes.ethz.ch/research/nonlinear-dynamical-systems.html) is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral candidate in the area of computational model-reduction for high-dimensional nonlinear mechanical systems, starting at the earliest possible date.

Job description

The objective of the position is the development of a professional-grade software package for an exact, dynamical-systems-based reduction of nonlinear mechanical systems to lower-dimensional Spectral Submanifolds (SSM). References to related theoretical results and existing numerical implementations can be found in recent publications of the Chair under the web address http://georgehaller.com/publications/index.html. The charge of the postdoctoral fellow will be to develop the existing numerical results further in order to cover nonlinear model reductionfor oscillatory systems arising from finite-element models. Another, more senior postdoc will be assisting in this numerical development from the theory side.The initial appointment will be made for one year with the possibility of renewal up to three years in case of satisfactory progress.The salary is competitive and will be based on the experience of the candidate.

Your profile

A Ph.D. in applied mathematics, physics, engineering or computer science is required. Demonstrated experience in numerical linear algebra, high-performance computing and scientific software development is highly expected. Some bakground in nonlinear dynamical systems is a plus. The candidate must have excellent communication skills in English (oral and writing) and must be willing to work in an international team environment.
